Environment

At TEECL, Environmental Responsibility is one of the pillars of our ESG commitment. We believe that taking care of the environment is not just a responsibility but a fundamental obligation. Our ESG principles guide us in achieving the delicate balance between delivering exceptional projects and safeguarding the environment for future generations.

We aim to advance sustainability by innovating and adopting more innovative approaches across our service portfolio while optimizing our business operations.

We have set our targets towards minimizing carbon footprint and strengthening resource efficiency, and we aim to achieve these targets by adopting a holistic approach by implementing the following: -

Adopting clean energy practices

Reducing Scope 2 and 3 GHG emissions

Enhancing energy efficiency

Creating a Circular Economy Roadmap

Enabling proper waste treatment and disposal

Tracking and reducing water consumption

Renewable Power Projects

Demonstrating our commitment to sustainable and green initiatives, from 2009 to 2013, we successfully developed 207.35 MW of renewable energy projects (wind power assets) at a cost of US $200 Mn. These projects were among the first few to be registered under the United Nations Framework Convention Change (UNFCC) for Carbon Credit. In collaboration with governmental initiatives like the Green Energy Corridor, we extend our commitment towards an environmentally friendly future.

FGDs

In line with India's commitment to reducing emissions, as outlined in its Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the government has focused on emission reduction from coal-based thermal power plants.

In 2019, we started doing Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) projects to help reduce SO2 emissions from coal-based power plants, thereby improving air quality and reducing the environmental impact of these operations. Through the implementation of cutting-edge technologies and a dedication to meeting the stringent requirements of environmental regulations set by the Central Control Pollution Board (CPCB), we have not only reduced emissions but also facilitated operational improvements for our clients.

We are currently executing projects worth US $271 million across various cities in India.

Smart Meters

The government of India plans to grow from 1 Mn smart meters to 250 Mn smart meters by 2024 using Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). As we know, AMI plays a crucial role in reducing energy wastage by providing utilities and consumers with real-time data, enabling better management of energy resources, and facilitating more efficient grid operations.

Using this technology to create a more sustainable and responsive energy ecosystem, TEECL, in the year 2022, initiated Advanced Metering Infrastructure (Smart meters) projects on the DBFOT model. TEECL has received orders for 4.5 lakh smart meters in Jammu & Kashmir and has already executed more than 50% of this order. Along with the government of India, we plan to install 1 million smart meters annually.

Data Center

With our experience in establishing and running renewable energy plants, we are committed to ensuring that our data center projects operate in a carbon-neutral manner, with a strong focus on procuring renewable energy for powering these assets.

Moreover, we are using Adiabatic cooling towers as a cooling solution in our data center, which will lead to an impressive 75% reduction in water consumption compared to conventional cooling towers, achieving a remarkable WUE of 0.012 KL/KW and substantial power consumption savings over Air Cooled Chiller Systems.

To further underscore our dedication to environmental responsibility, the electrical power design will incorporate a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for extended backup time of up to 16 minutes during power outages. By reducing the utilization of DG Sets, we are committed to being both environmentally and socially responsible.

As a testament to our sustainability commitment, the Chennai Data Center aims for the prestigious LEED Platinum rating, boasting over 25% green cover within the data center premises.

Our commitment to environmental responsibility goes beyond compliance; it's a fundamental part of who we are. Through sustainable practices and a dedication to preserving the environment, we can create a better world for today and tomorrow.
